5 Thought Provoking Reasons Why You Should Use LinkedIn Publisher

If you are not using LinkedIn Publisher yet then I urge you to consider this platform as part of your blogging strategy. If you are blogging on your website on a regular basis, then you have already done the hard work. Doesn’t it make sense to get as much exposure from your efforts as possible?

Publisher (or a “post”) is completely different to a status update on LinkedIn for many reasons.

#1 — Long form articles

A post is a full article. If you are writing a status update and you find that you are writing more than three or four paragraphs then consider adding it as a post. A regular status update gives you a maximum character limit of 600 characters, but a LinkedIn “publisher post” gives you a whopping 40,000 characters! Yes, you can write a book on LinkedIn publisher!

#2 — Your network will receive notifications

When you publish a status update, it will appear in the newsfeed of your audience, and hopefully, if your connections are online at the time that you are posting, they will see your content. The good news is, if you publish a full post, then your connections and followers will receive a little red notification about it, and we all know how much we love to get rid of those little red dots!

You can see in this screenshot that I have numerous posts to view, which is excellent exposure for the authors.

Your audience are also notified by email, if they have not turned off their email settings, as well as seeing the notifications in the “your day” connections area.

#3 — End your post with a call to action

Using the same strategies as a regular blog, ensure that you have added a call to action at the end of each of your publisher articles. This can be asking a question to stimulate conversation (if people comment on your blog then their connections will be informed and it will, therefore, generate more engagement and exposure), or adding a link to a landing page on your website / special offer.

#4 — Get that tingly feeling when your post goes into LinkedIn Pulse

If your article is popular, with likes, comments, and shares, then LinkedIn rewards you by giving the good content an extra boost and adding it to Pulse. LinkedIn Pulse is THE place to be. This is where you want your content to show up, as it is not only highly indexed by Google, but it is also highly indexed by LinkedIn search. Many people subscribe to categories on LinkedIn Pulse, and if your article is trending in a certain category then the exposure is enough for you to do a little dance!

#5 — A great way to appear as an expert in your field

What better way to appear as an expert in your field or chosen topic than being recognised and acknowledged for your content on LinkedIn? LinkedIn is a respected social media platform for the business world and producing regular content here is certainly a strategy worth considering.

Does publishing your blog on LinkedIn publisher affect your SEO?

I am not an SEO expert, but I would recommend adding your article to your blog first, then wait a min of three days before adding it to LinkedIn Publisher. Always add it immediately as a status update with a link back to your blog on your site, but add it as a full article / post a few days later. We use the same strategy for Facebook notes and also Medium.

As I said right at the beginning of this article. You have written the article, so why not make the most of your efforts and repurpose the content throughout your social media channels.

I’m curious. Where are you reading this article?

Please let me know and post below. I would be interested to see if more people read this on my blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Medium.
