If your Facebook page is looking a little bit stale and lifeless then perhaps it is time to get creative and add a bit more energy into your posts. Remember that videos and live streaming posts are still getting the most reach on Facebook, so consider these options when creating new content.

If, like me, you often scratch your head thinking “what on earth am I going to post today?”, then this blog is for you. Below are twenty-five different ideas to stimulate those creative juices. They all have lots of likes, shares and comments. This stuff really works!

IDEA #1 — FILL IN THE BLANK

Getting your audience to fill in the blank is a great way to encourage engagement. Simple posts such as the one below will always get engagement on your Facebook page.

IDEA #2 — CONTEST IDEAS

A contest does not have to be expensive and a big deal. We once gave away a pen to someone who guessed the amount of pens that were in a pile of pens on the floor! It worked a treat!

IDEA #3 — TECHNOLOGY POST

Consider posting something to do with the technology that you use in your business. People are naturally interested in the latest gadget, especially for things that make your life easier. What gadgets do you use in your business?

IDEA #4 — QUOTE POST

Quotes are always popular, but please make sure that you add them as a visual image or video, rather than just text.

IDEA #5 — INSERT YOUR BRAND POST

Here are a couple of examples of “insert your brand posts”

  1. There are two kinds of people in the world: [YOUR BRAND users] and ______.
  2. How has [YOUR PRODUCT] changed the way you live?

IDEA #6 — ANSWER A FAQ

Do you have frequently asked questions about your service or your products? Answer this question in a live stream, video or image form. The video below is answering the question “How do you handle rejection?” — have a look at his shares and likes!

IDEA #7 — GUESS THE PRODUCT POST

Can you guess what this is? Provide a close-up photo of a common gadget, or perhaps you use something in your business that only people in your industry would know what it is? Have some fun with this one! The post below is not exactly what I had in mind, but it really made me laugh!!! You need to watch it until the end to find out what the product is!

IDEA #8 — TUTORIAL POST

Tutorials rock! Put together a mini “how to” post. Teach people something that offers value to your audience.

IDEA #9 — LIST POST

Lists are brilliant as they are quick to read and very shareable. Think of eye-catching lists. Such as the 7 Mistakes that People Make, or a checklist of some kind. We may produce a list of the 10 ten podcasts to listen to for our industry, or top 5 books to read, etc.

IDEA #10 — VLOG

Have you thought about creating a vlog? Perhaps a conference you are attending in your industry? Video blogs are a great way of showing your personality. Be authentic and be you.

IDEA #11 — BOOK REVIEW POST

We have been posting book reviews for many years and they are always well received. Try posting a relevant book, or perhaps a magazine for your industry that your audience may be interested in.

IDEA #12 — SKETCH AND DOODLES

Sometimes it is difficult to say something in words. Why now draw something on a whiteboard, or piece of paper to explain how something works. You can video the process and use this on your social media channels.\

IDEA #13 — OPINION POST

This is sketchy ground because, on one hand, your opinion could alienate some of your audience, on the other hand, it could be highly praised. Stirring up emotion and creating a response is one of the best ways of generating engagement. Everyone likes to respond with their own opinion. It doesn’t even have to be that serious. A few months ago we had a difference of opinion about Marmite (when I threw Christina out of the office for eating the stuff!) — but look at the engagement that we had on the Facebook page. Amazing!

IDEA #14 — “CAPTION” THIS POST

Post a photograph on your Facebook page and ask your followers to write a caption for the photograph. These work well with people or animals.

IDEA #15 — PROMOTE OTHER FACEBOOK PAGES

Help out other businesses you know through networking or events and tag or share their Facebook page onto your page.

IDEA #16 — FAN OF THE MONTH / WEEK

Show that you acknowledge your fans or followers by highlighting a fan of the week or month.

IDEA #17 — STATISTICS

There are statistics from all industries. Using powerful numbers can encourage retweets and shares. Adidas put this together perfectly.

IDEA #18 — HIDDEN PRODUCTS / STAFF

Rather than sharing new products, you can use PicMonkey to fade your image out or add an overlay, and then ask your audience to guess what they think is behind the image. You could use the same principle for a staff member.

IDEA #19 — SHARE A HELPFUL RESOURCE

Don’t be afraid to direct your followers to other people’s valuable content (not just your own). Even the gurus in the industry direct their audience to other people’s websites. As long as the content is relevant for your audience then go for it!

IDEA #20 — A DAY IN THE LIFE POST

Give a recap of a typical day in the life of a graphic designer, author, CEO, etc — Check out Ripl, Quik or Vine to create mini video stories. What does your day look like? When the stories feature comes to Facebook Pages, then this type of post will belong there.

IDEA #21 — SHARE A WORK/LIFE BALANCE TIP

Your social media followers want to know you’re a real person with the same struggles as them. Share a tip you’ve learned for balancing work, life and family.

IDEA #22 — ASK FOR ADVICE

Pose a hypothetical question and ask your followers what they would do in that situation. Or simply let your frustrations go. At the end of the day, we need engagement on our Facebook page. People love to give advice, so asking for it will always get a reaction (just don’t do it constantly!).

#IDEA 23 — TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

Share photos of old logos, websites or your very first product. To visit old versions of your website go to

https://archive.org/web/

Here is the GU website when it first launched!

IDEA #24 — TRIVIA POST

Trivia always gets good engagement. What weird trivia do you know that you could share on your Facebook Page? If you can create the trivia in a video format then you will be onto a winner.

IDEA #25 — GET TO KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE POST

Asking questions such as “Who is the most famous person you have met in real life?” See how many comments are on this post below.

Summary

The key to success on Facebook is engagement. If you can get people talking on your Facebook page then you will win the battle for reach and exposure. Not all of the above works for everyone as each audience is different. Experiment with a variety of posts and see what works best for you.

Good luck!
